The Boomer’s Creed

The Boom Operator

Only a Boom Operator realizes to what great extent an entire aircrew depends upon him as an individual.

To a non-flyer this is not understandable and sometimes even difficult for us to comprehend, but so it is so.

An aircraft in flight is in a different world in itself, and in consideration of the protracted and distant operations of aircraft,

the Air Force must place responsibility and trust in the hands of those who take aircraft into flight.

In each aircraft there are men and women who, in the hour of emergency and peril in the air, can turn to each other.

These men and women are ultimately responsible to themselves and to each other for all aspects of the operation of their aircraft.

They are the crew.  They are the aircraft.

This is perhaps one of the most difficult and demanding assignments in the Air Force.  There is not an instant during their assignment

in the Air Force that a Boomer can escape the grasp of responsibility.  Their privileges in view of their obligations are

almost ludicrously small, nevertheless, it is the spur which has given the Air Force some of its greatest unsung heroes—

the men and women who are In-Flight Refueling Specialists.

It is the duty, which richly deserves the proud and time-honored title of—Boomer.
